logo Telstra is the largest mobile carrier in Australia with approximately 13 million prepaid subscribers. Their interest was to create Telstra Self Care, an Android application that allows a user to view their balance, recharge their prepaid plan, send credit to a friend or family member, and more. The design stage was accomplished through a series of design and technical workshops onsite with the customer over three weeks.

Week 1

Initial wireframe spec based on user tasks most commonly accomplished via a web interface or by calling customer care. Task flows correlated with initial review of solution architecture document (SAD) and Telstra created use cases.

Weeks 2-4

Design workshops with customer represented by Product, UX, Bus Analyst, Solution Arch, Tech Consultant, and a Devices representative. Nuance representation by myself, UI Design, and a Solution Architect. Design sessions were very interactive with technical, business, and UX each advocating non overlapping design wishes. Highly iterative, fast turnaround of changes on a daily basis to drive sign off by end of week 4. Gap analysis of proposed design with SAD, explicitly stating any design areas that were mutually agreed upon to be in best interest of the user and met business objectives. Early brand mockups were created using new Telstra brand, their first in many years. Incorporation of a style tool (less.js) that allowed me to automate/iterate brand theming A, B, Cwithin the HTML5 application via variables and operations.

Week 5-6

Finalize and customer sign off of wireframe functional spec. Version incorporates internal developer and QA feedback solicited by myself through a number of meetings. Rapid prototype of brand mock-ups via Chrome for Telstra Marketing/Legal/Brand/Product/UX sign off. Creations of UI components for server and application developers to use.
